Current status: beta

KnotWasted is in beta. Paid plans are not yet available for purchase on KnotWasted, and we do not charge anyone today. During the beta, paid features may be enabled manually at no cost. Before any paid plan is offered, we will publish its price in U.S. dollars and the full billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund terms here, and we will only charge you if you expressly agree.

1. Who we are and agreement

These Terms govern your use of KnotWasted (knotwasted.com), the English-language version of SinAserrín (the "Service"), operated by Ian Caleb Alvarez Zavaleta, an individual doing business in Mexico, located in Colonia Colonial del Lago, Nicolás Romero, Estado de México, 54476, Mexico ("KnotWasted," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. The Service

KnotWasted is a web app for woodworkers, shops, and DIY furniture makers. It calculates cutting plans and edge-banding, hardware, and cost estimates; saves your projects; lets you send a "ready-to-cut" order to a lumber yard you choose; and hosts a moderated Community.

We do not sell lumber, sheet goods, hardware, or cutting services. We provide calculation tools and connect you with independent lumber yards.

3. Eligibility and accounts

• You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
• You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email or with Google. You're responsible for keeping access to your email and Google account secure and for activity under your account.
• Keep your information accurate. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use.
• If you enter other people's information (such as your clients'), you confirm you have their permission.

4. Plans

The Lumber Yard Plan is currently offered only in Mexico, under the Spanish-language terms at sinaserrin.com/terminos.

5. Lumber yards

• We only connect you with lumber yards. We are not a party to your purchase or cutting service and receive no payment for the material.
• We don't guarantee lumber yards' prices, stock, material quality, cutting accuracy, or delivery times. Prices shown are entered by each lumber yard and may be out of date; the final price is the lumber yard's quote.
• Take any claims about material or cutting to the lumber yard. Report bad-faith lumber yards to [email protected]; we may remove them.

6. Calculations are estimates — verify before you cut

Please read carefully.

• Cutting plans and edge-banding, hardware, and cost figures are automated estimates based on the information you enter and on settings such as blade kerf, tolerances, grain direction, and sheet sizes.
• Before buying material or cutting, you must verify all dimensions, thicknesses, quantities, tolerances, grain direction, hardware clearances, and the cutting plan yourself and with the lumber yard.
• We are not responsible for wasted material, measuring errors, incorrect cuts, or damages resulting from inaccurate input, failure to verify, the cutting performed by a lumber yard or by you, or use of the finished furniture.
• If you believe the Service made a calculation error, contact us with the affected project; we'll review it and fix it.

7. Community content

• You may post project photos and descriptions. Posts are published only after manual review and show your first name.
• You keep ownership of your content. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, revocable license to host, display, reproduce, and technically adapt (resize, crop, compress) it within the Service and on our official channels, including social media, while it is posted and for up to 30 days after you ask us to remove it.
• You confirm you own the content or have the necessary rights, and that anyone identifiable in it agreed to be shown.
• Not allowed: content you don't have rights to, other people's personal information, sexual, violent, hateful, defamatory, or illegal content, spam, malicious links, or misleading content.
• We may decline or remove any post that breaks these Terms. You can ask us to remove your posts anytime at [email protected].
• Copyright complaints: send notices to [email protected] identifying the work, the allegedly infringing material, and your contact information.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, and calculation algorithms, belongs to Ian Caleb Alvarez Zavaleta or his licensors. "KnotWasted" and "SinAserrín" and their logos are our brand names and may not be used without permission. You keep ownership of your projects and data, and grant us only the rights needed to store, process, and display them to provide the Service. PDFs and quotes you create are yours to use.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use the Service unlawfully; send fake or bulk orders to lumber yards; access accounts or systems without authorization; scrape the Service or directory; reverse engineer it except as permitted by law; resell it without permission; or impersonate others.

10. Beta features and availability

The Service is in beta and may change, fail, or have features removed. We aim to keep it available, but it may be interrupted for maintenance, provider outages, or events beyond our control. Please back up important projects: you can export them as a code or download the PDF from the app. If we discontinue the Service, we'll give at least 60 days' notice and let you export your projects.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT CALCULATIONS WILL BE ERROR-FREE. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THESE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST MATERIALS, LOST PROFITS, OR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) US$50. THESE LIMITS DO NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW, INCLUDING FOR FRAUD, GROSS NEGLIGENCE, OR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT.

13. Termination

You can ask us to delete your account anytime by emailing [email protected] from the address linked to it. We may suspend or terminate accounts that seriously violate these Terms or put others at risk, with notice except in urgent cases.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes, we'll notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you disagree, you may stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account.

15. Governing law and disputes

Please contact [email protected] first; we'll try to resolve any issue informally within 30 days. These Terms are governed by the federal laws of Mexico, and disputes will be resolved by the competent courts of the Estado de México, Mexico. However, if you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms takes away mandatory protections under the laws of your place of residence.
